Elevator Pitch
I'm a graduate of
Fitchburg State University with a major
Geographic Science and Technology. During my courses I worked on a variety of mapping
and software projects, including an independent study on
litter distribution in Leominster and Fitchburg Massachusetts under Dr. Jane Huang.
Right now, I work at National Grid USA creating functional mapping solutions for my team.
We're working on making energy distribution more effective, more affordable, and
cleaner
for the communites in Massachusetts that we service.
During my productive free time, I work on web mapping technologies. I believe in open source, and to that end,
learn the tech that is progressing the speed and
simplicity of web mapping. Projects I use include Leaflet JS,
QGIS, PostGIS, and MapLibre. As I continue to
study, I hope to start contributing to these excellent projects, as they have helped me so much in my career.
Hobbies
Biking
I've ridden a lot since highschool, but recently started taking it more seriously. I did my first race last year at
Crossburg, a fantastic
grassroots cyclocross race put on by The Break Bicycle Shop. This year I plan on doing one
XC MTB race per month on my 2013 Specialized Hardrock, followed by a convenient cross
season into December on my State Bicycle 6061 All-Road.
Cartography
Creating pretty things has always been really fun for me. I have never been exceptionally talented, but I've always enjoyed drumming, drawing, and creative writing.
Cartography
takes all of the creative juices and quantifies them, which for me is the best mix. Don't like the default colors? Build a new palette and see if you like
those ones better. Search through the thousands of open fonts availible and choose the one that fits the map. Make a fantasy map, and invent a country.
See what the world looked like in 1500 and share it in a visually appealing way. Explore the depths without leaving your office.
All cool things made possible with data and art.
